American Racing Pigeon Union
Standardized Point System
Below you will find the new AU Standardized Point System which has been programmed in to WinSpeed version 2008A.
This new point system will calculate Champion Bird and Champion Loft at your local levels as well as new awards
coming in the National Database. It will also drive future President Cup awards beginning with 2008 young bird season.

All Distance Champion Bird-
Total of all points earned by each pigeon in all races flown in the OB series.

Champion Loft Point System for Local Awards in WinSpeed:

Youngbirds

Youngbird Champion Loft -
Total of all points earned by an individual loft in all races flown in the YB series.

Master Loft Point System for Local Awards in WinSpeed:

Youngbirds

Youngbird Master Loft-

Total of all points earned by an individual loft in each race divided by the loft’s bird entry. Includes all races flown during a single YB series.

Oldbirds

Middle Distance Master Loft-

Total of all points earned by an individual loft in each race divided by the loft’s bird entry. Includes all races flown during a single OB
series in races where the average distance is less than 350 miles.

Long Distance Master Loft-
Total of all points earned by an individual loft in each race divided by the loft’s bird entry. Includes all races flown during a single OB
series in races where the average distance is greater than or equal to 350 miles.

Oldbird All Distance Master Loft-
Total of all points earned by an individual loft in each race divided by the loft’s bird entry. Includes all races flown during a single OB series.

The New AU Standardized Points System gives each bird in the top 20% of the race sheet a point score which is the product of
two factors: 1) The Ranking Factor and 2) the Distance Factor.

The ranking factor is derived from the percentile rank which is used in the current National Ace Pigeon and new upcoming AU Hall of Fame. However unlike the percentile rank, which gets smaller as the performance of the bird gets better, the committee wanted to convert it so that the numerical value increased as the performance improved. The procedure they came up with is to subtract the percentile rank from 20 and multiply by 5. This gives a point scale which starts at 100 points for the winner of a race with an infinite number of birds and then gives progressively less points to the birds down the sheet until it goes to zero at the 20th percentile position. (For example the 20th percentile would be 20th place in a 100 bird race and 200th place in a 1000 bird race.) The first place winning points are also decreased as the number of birds in the race falls, although the decrease is calibrated based on the values of the original percentile ranks used in the calculation.

The Distance Factor increases as the mileage of the race increases. Definitions, formulas and examples are shown below:

The Distance Factor for any given race is determined by averaging the distances of the participating lofts in that level of competition. If a loft competes
at the club level and the combine level in a race the Distance Factor for his club’s results will be the average of the lofts competing in his club alone
while the combine Distance Factor will be the average of all the lofts competing in the combine.

Definitions, formulas and examples:

Percentile Rank = Position of bird, divided by number of birds entered in the race, multiplied by 100.

Example: 3rd against 300 birds; 3 divided by 300 = 0.01, 0.01 times 100 = 1%.

RF, Ranking Factor = (20 minus the Percentile rank) times 5.

Example: 3rd position against 300 birds.
RF =(20 minus 1%) times 5 = (20—1) x 5 = 19 x 5 = 95

Distance Factor (DF)
DF = (Distance x .005) + 0.5 = (DF)

100 miles = 1.0 x points
200 miles = 1.5 x points
300 miles = 2.0 x points
400 miles = 2.5 x points
500 miles = 3.0 x points
600 miles = 3.5 x points

3rd against 300 birds at 200 miles gets 95 times 1.5 = 142.5 points

3rd against 300 birds at 400 miles gets 95 times 2.5 = 238 points

Complete Examples:

#1
200 pigeons entered in the race.
100 mile race.
Bird placed 5th.

Percentile Rank = (5/200100) = .025 x 100 = 2.5

RF = (20-2.5)5 = 17.5 x 5 = 87.5
DF = (100 x 0.005) + 0.5 = 0.5 + 0.5 = 1

Points = RF times DF = 87.5 x 1 = 87.5 points

#2
200 pigeons entered in the race.
500 mile race.
Bird placed 5th.

Percentile Rank = (5/200100) = .025 x 100 = 2.5

RF = (20-2.5)5 = 17.5 x 5 = 87.5
DF = (500 x 0.005) = 0.5 = 2.5 + 0.5 = 3

Points =87.5 x 3 = 262.5 points
